Photo story is the art of telling a story through photographs hence not depending on the words to convey that you wish to convey. Depending on the subject, a photo story can cover a subject whose story ends in a day or even a year or more. Nevertheless, it is rare that a non journalistic photo story is completed in few hours in first attempt.
I have attempted three photo stories till date of which one is still in progress. They have been completed between 2 – 21 day period. The quickest was my story of stone pelting in Srinagar, Kashmir, India while the longest was my coverage of 42 days Tamil Nadu farmers’ protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, India in summer of 2017.
Tamil Nadu farmers had been facing three years of consecutive drought hence cop failures. Being not in a position to return crop loan of previous crops, and neither eligible for loans for new crop, they had only one option visible in front of them – suicide. Accounting for largest share of farmer suicides, few farmers from one of the worst affect regions of the state decided to hold protest in New Delhi to get the loan waivers along with other other demands. However, with mix of politics and changed mindset of government, the end to the protest was different just like the protest itself. To see the story CLICK HERE
Stone pelting which started few years before today seems to be a default response to presence of or any ‘undesired’ act done by security forces. Events of May 26 and May 27 lead to another round of long curfew in Srinagar. This photo story covers events of these two days in Srinagar. To see the story CLICK HERE
